North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that occurred Monday at 2:41 p.m. on Highway 58 South involving a vehicle pursued by Maysville Police Department.
According to the Maysville Town Manager, officers responded to reports of reckless driving, discovering the vehicle was stolen, which led to the police pursuit.
Troopers reported that the passenger vehicle was recklessly driving on Highway 58 when it abruptly slammed on its brakes, resulting in the collision with the pursuing police vehicle near Old Church in Carteret County.
No injuries were reported among the Maysville Police officers. The driver of the passenger vehicle sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, while a passenger was transported to Carteret Health for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that charges are pending against the driver involved in the incident.
