A crash in Onslow County has left two people with serious injuries, prompting an impaired driving investigation.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, 36-year-old Justine Sweeney of Halifax, Massachusetts, was arrested on Tuesday, April 28, following the incident that occurred on April 25 along U.S. 258.

Authorities charged Sweeney with two counts of felony serious injury by vehicle, driving while impaired, , driving left of center, and failure to wear a seat belt.

Warrants indicate Sweeney caused serious injuries to both victims; one suffered a fractured leg, while the other sustained facial fractures and internal injuries, including free fluid in the abdominal area.

Investigators reported the crash involved three injuries and occurred at a high rate of speed. Sweeney allegedly admitted to consuming a controlled substance and was administered Narcan at the scene.

Sweeney is being held at the Onslow County Jail without bond on the serious injury by vehicle charges. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29.
