NORTHGLENN, Colo. — A traffic stop escalated into a fatal crash Thursday night, killing an 18-year-old passenger and rupturing a gas line, authorities reported.

The incident occurred near Washington Street and E. 112th Avenue when police attempted to stop 18-year-old Angelo Arias for erratic driving. According to the Northglenn Police Department, Arias initially complied but fled, crashing into a residence in the 10400 block of Clarkson Street moments later.

The crash resulted in the death of Arias's passenger, whose identity has not been released. No injuries were reported for occupants within the home. The impact ruptured a gas line, prompting a CodeRed evacuation notice for nearby residents.

Emergency services responded, and utility crews quickly shut off the damaged gas line. Residents were allowed to return home once the area was deemed safe.

Authorities suspect that Arias was impaired at the time of the incident. He was arrested at the scene and faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide.

Northglenn Police are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Brummel at 303-450-8857 or dbrummel@northglenn.org.
