Amish Buggy Crash in Northeast Ohio Kills Horse, Injures Five

LAWRENCE TWP., Ohio — A northbound pickup rear-ended an Amish buggy on Manchester Avenue NW at 5:06 a.m. May 21, injuring five and killing a horse.

According to Police Sgt. Brad Henson, the crash occurred in the 3600 block as both vehicles were traveling northbound.

Henson said the buggy's occupants—two men, two women and a 2-year-old—were taken to hospitals with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Authorities said the adult occupants were married couples between 23 and 39 years old; the age of one woman was not immediately available.

One horse died from its injuries, and a second horse was taken in by an Amish neighbor to arrange its return to the owners, Henson said.

Authorities said the pickup's driver left the scene in a private .

The crash remains under investigation as of the morning of May 21; the driver's age and residence were not yet available, police said.
