COLUMBUS, Ohio — An 11-year-old girl died May 15 following a May 13 collision on Columbus' Far West Side, authorities said.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, the crash occurred at 11:58 p.m. May 13 near Hilliard Rome Road and Hilliard Rome Road East.
Police said the pedestrian, identified as Scarlett Hightower, 11, attempted to cross Hilliard Rome Road south of the intersection against a “Don't Walk” signal and was struck by a southbound 2015 Toyota Highlander.
The driver stopped and remained at the scene, authorities said. Hightower was transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital in critical condition.
She was pronounced dead at 6:26 p.m. May 15 by a physician at Nationwide Children's Hospital, according to a May 18 police release.
No criminal charges had been filed as of May 18, police said. The Accident Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate.
