GUYMON, Okla. (KOKH) — Two firefighters are recovering following a crash while responding to a grass fire in Kansas on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 4:20 p.m., a Guymon Fire Brush unit was dispatched to the fire when it rolled over on Hwy 136, just north of Guymon and south of the Kansas border.

According to Guymon Fire Chief Grant Wadley, “The front tire caught the right shoulder edge of the highway, over corrected with water in the tank shifting, then rolled 1 ½ times coming to rest upside down in the east ditch.”

Both firefighters exited the vehicle and called for assistance. One was treated and released for minor injuries, while the other was admitted to the hospital in stable condition with chest and back injuries.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Emergency response teams were on the scene to provide medical aid and assist with the vehicle recovery.
