FOND DU LAC, Wisc. (WLUK) — A high-speed police chase in Wisconsin concluded with a vehicle crash in a field on [date], according to authorities.
The pursuit began when state troopers attempted a traffic stop and discovered an active felony warrant for the driver. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office joined the chase as the suspect fled, covering several miles across local roads and the interstate.
During the chase, the driver briefly reversed direction off an exit ramp before navigating through nearby streets and parking lots. The pursuit ended violently when the suspect lost control while exiting the interstate, driving into a ditch and launching airborne over an adjacent road before crashing into a field.
Following the crash, the driver, identified as 44-year-old Dewayne Stokes of Milwaukee, and a passenger attempted to flee the scene. Deputies apprehended Stokes, who sustained minor injuries and was treated before being taken into custody.
Stokes was on bond for a separate felony case involving an alleged stolen vehicle. He now faces multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding police, recklessly endangering safety, bail jumping, resisting officers, firearm possession by a felon, and marijuana possession.
The chase lasted approximately 4.5 miles, according to officials.
