Crash Near Parker Leads to Gas Leak, Shelter-in-Place Order Lifted
PARKER, CO – A vehicle crash into a building on South Chambers Road near East Mainstreet prompted a temporary shelter-in-place order for Douglas County residents Wednesday afternoon at 1:14 p.m.
South Metro Fire Rescue reported a gas line was broken due to the crash, which led authorities to issue the order for a half-mile radius around 10759 Tomboy Drive, affecting local neighborhoods including Newlin Crossing and Meridian Village. Pine Grove Elementary School was also placed under the order with controlled student releases.
The shelter-in-place was lifted by 2:45 p.m., although officials cautioned about a lingering gas odor in the area. Chambers Road remained closed between Mainstreet and Cosmopolitan Circle for the ongoing investigation, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Two individuals were transported to hospitals for evaluation, with their connection to the crash unspecified. Authorities urged nearby residents to keep windows closed and refrain from activities that may ignite a spark.
