Cranston Man Charged in Connection with Fatal Bicycle Crash
CRANSTON, R.I. — A Cranston man was charged in connection with a fatal bicycle crash that occurred on March 15.
Authorities reported that the collision happened on Cranston Street near the intersection with Elmwood Avenue around 6:30 p.m. A 34-year-old male bicyclist was struck by a vehicle traveling in the northbound lane. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, but the bicyclist was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The driver, identified as a 29-year-old Cranston resident, has been charged with reckless driving and driving under the influence. Witnesses reported the vehicle was traveling at a high speed prior to the collision.
The Rhode Island State Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Lane closures were in effect for approximately three hours while the scene was cleared and an accident reconstruction team examined the area.
