A Morris County man died in a multi-vehicle crash on Route 80 in Rockaway on May 7, New Jersey State Police confirmed.
The accident occurred at 8:40 a.m. near mile marker 34.4, according to Detective Sgt. Caitlin Brennan.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a 91-year-old Boonton resident was driving west on Route 80 when his Hyundai SUV collided with a reversing Chevrolet that had entered the exit lanes at exit 34B.
The impact caused the Hyundai to veer across all westbound lanes, striking the rear of a Honda before hitting the driver's side of a Kia.
The Hyundai driver was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are withholding his identity pending family notification.
The driver of the Kia sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital. No other injuries were reported.
As of 2 p.m. on May 7, the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
