(WJAR) — A pedestrian fatality occurred on Belmont Street in Brockton last Friday evening.
According to authorities, Brockton police and Massachusetts State Police responded to the incident at approximately 8:00 p.m. Emergency responders found an injured man, later identified as 55-year-old William Dearth, who was transported to a local hospital.
Reports indicate Dearth was pronounced dead upon arrival. The investigation revealed he was crossing Belmont Street when he was struck by a Toyota Highlander. Surveillance footage showed the vehicle was traveling at a normal speed, and the crossing area lacked a designated crosswalk.
Witnesses reported that the lighting conditions were poor at the time of the accident. The driver of the Highlander was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing, and no criminal charges have been filed.
