EXETER, R.I. (WJAR) — A woman was seriously injured in a rollover crash on I-95 in Exeter on Wednesday evening, according to the Rhode Island State Police.
The incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway. Authorities reported that a BMW driven by 21-year-old Calvin Kilgore of Connecticut was speeding when it changed lanes to overtake a slower vehicle. Kilgore lost control, struck a cable guardrail, and rolled over multiple times before coming to a stop in the center median.
A 20-year-old female passenger from Massachusetts was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. Both Kilgore and a 23-year-old male from Connecticut suffered minor injuries. All three individuals were transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
State police reported that Kilgore was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs resulting in serious bodily injury and reckless driving. He was held overnight at the state police barracks and is scheduled for arraignment on Thursday.
