BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (KOKH) — A vehicle pursuit led to a fatal crash early Saturday morning in northeastern Oklahoma.
At approximately 2 a.m. on April 17, a Bixby Police Department officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver fled, initiating a chase eastbound on E. 111th St. South, reaching speeds of 80 to 90 mph. Bixby officials reported that officers from the Broken Arrow Police Department later joined the pursuit as it crossed into their jurisdiction.
Near the 17900 block of E. Florence Ave., the suspect's vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a creek. The vehicle was found overturned, but first responders faced challenges accessing the scene due to difficult terrain.
The Broken Arrow Fire Department arrived and extricated the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver's identity has not yet been released.
While initial reports indicated that Broken Arrow officers participated in the chase, authorities clarified that they were not involved. The Broken Arrow Police Department is leading the investigation into the incident and will release additional details as they become available.
