MAKIKI, HI (Local News Wire) — A vigil was held this week for Eddie Cruz-Ochoa, a 30-year-old man killed in a hit-and-run at Wilder Avenue and Kewalo Street on April 9.
Cruz-Ochoa was struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene, according to police reports. His death marks Oʻahu's 13th traffic fatality of the year.
Family and friends gathered at the intersection to remember Cruz-Ochoa, who was known for his passion for philosophy, physics, and astronomy. Loved ones described him as a caring individual who supported others in difficult times.
Authorities urge anyone with dashcam or surveillance footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward. Cruz-Ochoa's family continues to seek answers, expressing their grief over the circumstances of his death.
“Just please come forward,” said Denielle Cabalis, Cruz-Ochoa's girlfriend. “If you know anything, we're not resting until we figure out what happened.”
The Honolulu Police Department is investigating the incident.
