Mother and toddler rescued after escaping submerged car in Vermont river.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — A woman and her 2-year-old son escaped unharmed after their submerged in the Ottauquechee River just before 1 p.m. Monday.

According to officials, the incident occurred near the New Hampshire border. The mother managed to unbuckle her son from his car seat, cut through the driver's-side airbag, and climb out of a window.

Rescue crews located both individuals safe on shore. They were transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for precautionary evaluation.

The Hartford Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
