KAPAA, HI — A crash involving a sedan and a moped on Wednesday evening has resulted in the death of a 38-year-old Kapaa man.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Kuhio Highway near Anahola Marketplace. The victim, identified as Tristen Kuehu, was involved in a collision with a 2012 Toyota sedan driven by a 77-year-old man, who was making a left turn into the marketplace.
Authorities reported that Kuehu sustained fatal injuries at the scene and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Police closed Kuhio Highway in both directions for about two-and-a-half hours to conduct an investigation.
This incident marks the third traffic fatality on Kauai this year. Toxicology results are pending.
