HAWAII KAI, Hawaii (Island News) — A 39-year-old man died following a motorcycle crash on Kalanianaole Highway at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026.
The collision, involving two motorcycles, occurred near Halona Beach Cove. Authorities reported that the victim was traveling westbound when he rear-ended another motorcyclist, a 23-year-old man.
The impact caused the man to lose control, strike a guardrail, and be ejected onto the roadway. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene, transporting him to a hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.
The 23-year-old rider remained at the scene and sustained no injuries. Authorities confirmed that the 39-year-old was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that speed is not suspected as a contributing factor, although it remains unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role.
This incident marks Oahu's 10th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 16 during the same period in 2025. The investigation is ongoing.
