PLATTE COUNTY, MO. (October 1, 2023) — One high school student was killed in a fiery car crash in Platte County on Sunday afternoon.
The crash occurred around 2:41 p.m. on Highway 45 near the intersection with Route D, according to the Platte County Sheriff's Office. Two vehicles were involved, a sedan and an SUV, both traveling southbound on Highway 45 when they collided.
Emergency responders from the Platte County Fire District, along with local law enforcement, arrived on the scene shortly after the incident. The driver of the sedan, a 17-year-old Park Hill High School student, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities reported that the sedan caught fire following the collision. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and the roadway was closed for several hours to facilitate the investigation and cleanup.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, and officials have not yet released further details about the circumstances leading up to the collision. Witnesses are urged to contact the Platte County Sheriff's Office with any additional information.
