LINN COUNTY, Iowa (IOWA'S NEWS NOW) — Paul Hoff, 47, has been arrested on drug charges two months after his release from federal prison.
Hoff is facing two counts of possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a prescription drug, and public intoxication, according to authorities. He was arrested following a crash at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and 1st Street SW in Cedar Rapids, where police reported a strong smell of alcohol and discovered psilocybin mushrooms, cocaine, and Hydrocodone pills.
He was released from the Linn County Jail by Sunday afternoon. Hoff previously pled guilty to two counts of obstruction related to the December 2018 murder of Chris Bagley in Cedar Rapids.
In the Bagley case, Hoff's mobile home was identified as the location where Bagley was fatally stabbed by Drew Wagner and Johnny Church. Hoff testified against Church to reduce his charges in 2021 and later during Andrew Shaw's murder trial.
Hoff was sentenced to over 14 years in federal prison in November 2019 for separate drug and gun charges and was released in late December. Bagley's remains were discovered at a home in southeast Cedar Rapids shortly after Hoff's arrest in 2019. Shaw and Church are serving lengthy sentences for their roles in the murder, while Wagner is serving 47 years after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
