HONOLULU (Island News) – A City Bus driver died from injuries sustained in a crash on N. Vineyard Blvd in Kalihi on March 17, 2026.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office identified the driver as 59-year-old James Oda. The cause and manner of death have not yet been released.
Authorities reported that Oda lost control of the bus, which veered into the center median and struck a tree. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead the same day.
Mayor Rick Blangiardi expressed condolences, stating, “James was part of the backbone of our public transportation system, helping thousands of residents and visitors safely reach their destinations each day.”
