SUMMERVILLE — A man has been charged with felony DUI and reckless homicide after a crash on College Park Road that killed his passenger on February 13.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the incident occurred shortly before midnight when a 2021 pickup truck driven by 49-year-old Brad Edward Dobbs veered off the road and struck a tree. Dobbs sustained injuries, while his passenger, 30-year-old Thomas Dylan Prince, was critically injured and later died at a local hospital.

Investigators determined Dobbs was traveling westbound at approximately 100 mph in a 45 mph zone. When deputies arrived, the pickup's speedometer was locked at 120 mph. An open bottle of liquor was found in the vehicle's front passenger floorboard.

Authorities noted that Dobbs appeared disoriented, with bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol. Blood and urine samples were collected for testing, but the results have not been disclosed.

Dobbs was arrested on March 16 after being released from medical treatment. A felony DUI resulting in death can lead to a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a fine of $25,100. Reckless vehicular homicide carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $5,000.

Magistrate Martin Housand set bond at $60,000, and Dobbs was released from custody on March 17 at approximately 1:15 p.m.
