Flights between Ohio airports and New York’s LaGuardia were canceled Monday after a fatal runway collision there late Sunday, March 22.
According to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, an Air Canada Express CRJ-900 with 72 passengers and 4 crew collided with a Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting truck just before 11:40 p.m. Sunday. USA TODAY reports the pilot and copilot were killed and dozens were injured. The fire vehicle was responding to a separate United Airlines aircraft that had reported an odor issue, authorities said.
LaGuardia is closed until 2 p.m. Monday, March 23, following the crash, according to USA TODAY.
According to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, canceled departures to LaGuardia include Delta 9E5177 (6:05 a.m.) and 9E5190 (10:55 a.m.), and American AA4677 (6:49 a.m.), AA4433 (10:56 a.m.) and AA4435 (1:37 p.m.). Canceled arrivals include Delta 9E5190 (10:04 a.m.), 9E5045 (12:59 p.m.) and 9E5242 (3:33 p.m.), and American AA4433 (10:16 a.m.) and AA4435 (1:07 p.m.). Other CLE flights to/from LGA remain scheduled this afternoon and evening, airport officials said.
At Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Delta departures 9E5193 (6:02 a.m.), 9E5149 (8:00 a.m.) and 9E5209 (10:19 a.m.) to LGA were canceled, according to CVG. Arrivals 9E5016 (10:25 a.m.), 9E4987 (12:50 p.m.) and 9E5504 (4:03 p.m.) from LGA were also canceled. Later Delta flights remain on the schedule, airport officials said.
According to John Glenn Columbus International Airport, canceled flights to LGA include American AA4441 (10:30 a.m.) and AA4350 (12:11 p.m.). Canceled LGA arrivals at CMH include Delta DL5686 (9:57 a.m.) and DL5669 (1:26 p.m.), and American AA4380 (11:32 a.m.), AA4442 (2:01 p.m.) and AA4562 (7:00 p.m.). Some later CMH flights to/from LGA remain scheduled, authorities said.
