MARION, Ind. — A woman died in a head-on collision on State Road 9 north of Marion Tuesday night, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office.
The crash occurred at 8:35 p.m. on State Road 9/North Huntington Road, between East Bocock Road and East County Road 450 North, in a rural area approximately one mile north of Marion.
Authorities reported that a 2019 Volkswagen was traveling south while a 2017 Ford F-250 was heading north when the two vehicles collided. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Deputies found the driver of the Volkswagen deceased at the scene. The identities of the individuals involved have not yet been released, as Grant County Coroner Stephen Dorsey is working to confirm the woman's identity and notify her next of kin.
The driver and passenger in the Ford F-250 were treated for injuries at the scene and subsequently released.
Emergency responders from the Van Buren Police Department, Marion Health medics, and the Washington and Van Buren Township Fire Departments assisted at the crash site.
Sheriff Del Garcia expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and offered support to the other individuals involved in the incident.
Marion is located approximately 80 minutes northeast of downtown Indianapolis.
