GREENACRES, Fla. (CBS12) — A Learjet crash in Palm Beach County on Sunday killed all nine people on board, including 20-year-old co-pilot Nathalia Filgueiras.
The incident occurred at 12:50 p.m. on South Military Trail between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North. Witnesses reported a loud explosion that was heard for miles, followed by flames and thick smoke billowing along the roadway.
Filgueiras was co-piloting a Learjet 60 traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when the aircraft rapidly descended. According to her family, she was an aspiring pilot who earned her private pilot's license in 2023 while still in high school.
Emergency services reported that while there were no injuries on the ground, approximately 600 residents from a nearby mobile home park were evacuated as a precaution.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the cause.
