Two high-speed trains collided near Urda in Spain's Toledo province Wednesday morning, Oct. 28, 2026, derailing two cars and killing at least 30, media reported.

According to the state rail infrastructure manager ADIF, the crash occurred in Toledo province and rail service was suspended between Madrid, Ciudad Real and Andalusia.

Authorities initially reported 10 deaths, according to Castilla-La Mancha spokeswoman Esther Padilla; Spanish state agency EFE later reported at least 30 fatalities.

Padilla said two high-speed trains traveling from Madrid toward Seville were involved; one struck the rear of a stopped train, derailing two cars. She said the cause was not known.

The trains were operated by RENFE and IRYO, authorities said. Padilla reported 397 passengers aboard the RENFE train and 147 on the IRYO train.

Emergency services, firefighters, police and a military emergency brigade responded. Spanish Health Minister Mónica García said rescuers focused on the two most damaged cars, and injured passengers were sent to area hospitals. The mayor of Urda said a sports pavilion was prepared to assist the injured.

IRYO said it activated security protocols and is working with authorities.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
