RIDGEVIEW, S.D. — A Florida man died Monday in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 212.
According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred around 3:59 p.m. on October 26, about six miles west of Ridgeview. A 2016 Tiffin Motor Homes Inc. RV, driven by an 87-year-old male from New Meadows, Idaho, was traveling westbound while towing a Jeep Wrangler.
Preliminary reports indicate the Jeep swayed due to slush and snow on the roadway, causing the RV to lose control and roll into the ditch. The passenger, an 85-year-old male from Palm City, Florida, suffered fatal injuries, while the driver was transported to an Eagle Butte hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The use of seat belts by both individuals is currently under investigation. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash.
