LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A teenager critically injured in an e-scooter crash in Henderson has died, according to her mother.
Authorities said the 15-year-old girl, identified as Torri, succumbed to her injuries on October 21 at University Medical Center. The crash occurred around 3:08 p.m. when a vehicle struck her while she was riding an electric scooter in a marked crosswalk on Racetrack Road near Blue Lantern Drive.
Witnesses reported that Torri was crossing Racetrack Road from the Saguaro Park Trail when she was hit by a southbound vehicle. The driver, Michael Stanton, 64, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and failure to exercise due care for a pedestrian.
Despite efforts to save her, Torri's family confirmed she will be an organ donor. The Basic Academy school community held a moment of silence in her memory during a football game on Friday.
Henderson Police continue to investigate the incident. Authorities indicated that speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash. Police Chief Reggie Radar emphasized the department's increased enforcement efforts and encouraged parents to educate their children about e-scooter safety.
Donations to support Torri's family can be made through a GoFundMe campaign.
