LUMBERTON, NC — A deadly crash on U.S. Highway 74 early Sunday morning has raised questions as the driver was reported missing a week prior, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded to the crash near the intersection with I-95 at approximately 2:41 a.m. Evidence at the scene indicated a 2018 Charger ran off the roadway and struck a tree. The impact resulted in the death of the 36-year-old male driver, who authorities confirmed was previously reported missing.

Emergency medical personnel arrived on site but pronounced the driver dead at the scene. The Robeson County Emergency Services and Lumberton Fire Department assisted in the response.

Authorities reported that U.S. Highway 74 was closed in both directions for several hours during the investigation. Crews worked to clear the wreckage and ensure safety before reopening the highway at around 6:30 a.m.
