Opelika Man Succumbs to Injuries Nearly a Week After Chambers County Accident.

CHAMBERS COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – An Opelika man succumbed to injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 280 on August 29.

According to Alabama State Troopers, 82-year-old Robert Stewart died following the collision that occurred on August 23. He was a passenger in an driven by 81-year-old Frances Stewart, also of Opelika. Their vehicle was struck by a pickup truck operated by 35-year-old James Graves of Auburn, causing it to overturn.

Robert Stewart was to Piedmont Regional Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia, for treatment. Frances Stewart was transported to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika with injuries.

The incident took place at the intersection of U.S. Highway 280 and Seals Street, approximately two miles west of Waverly. The investigation remains ongoing, and lane closures were reported following the crash.
