AURORA, Colo. (WKRC) – A man was sentenced to 26 years in prison for kidnapping a witness following a traffic crash on May 25, 2025.
According to the Pueblo County District Attorney's Office, Shane McSwane, 29, was involved in a collision seen by Grace Dotson. When Dotson attempted to call 911, McSwane entered her vehicle and kidnapped her.
Authorities stated McSwane held Dotson captive for four hours, driving erratically on the interstate and allowing her to answer calls from her family during the ordeal.
The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office reported that police began pursuing Dotson's vehicle after McSwane used it to rob a Circle K convenience store.
Law enforcement employed stop sticks and a PIT maneuver to bring the vehicle to a halt. McSwane was arrested at the scene, and Dotson was safely rescued.
McSwane pled guilty to kidnapping and attempted aggravated robbery. He was sentenced on June 12 and will serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
