NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A pedestrian collision on Lower Broadway Saturday afternoon left one man dead and three others injured.
The incident occurred on August 1 around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Fourth Avenue North and Broadway, a heavily trafficked pedestrian zone. Authorities identified the deceased as Timothy Wedlock, 58, from Australia.
According to Metro Nashville Police, 87-year-old Thomas Cahill of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion south on Fourth Avenue when he ran a red light, striking four pedestrians legally crossing Broadway.
Wedlock succumbed to his injuries. A 44-year-old man from Jacksonville, Florida, is reported in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A 21-year-old woman from Knoxville sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while a 58-year-old woman from Parsons, Tennessee, is currently in critical but stable condition.
Investigators continue to determine the cause of the incident. Metro Police indicated they are looking into the possibility of a medical emergency preceding the collision but noted there were no signs of impairment in Cahill's driving. Cahill and his 90-year-old wife, a passenger in the vehicle, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash has raised concerns about vehicle traffic on Lower Broadway, though no charges have been filed as the investigation by the Traffic Division continues.
