DUBLIN (AP) — Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard, 56, died in a motorcycle crash in Lucan early Wednesday, according to authorities.
Irish police reported that the crash occurred before 4:30 a.m., involving Hansard riding alone. Emergency responders treated him at the scene; he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Details surrounding the incident remain under investigation. Authorities have not released additional information about the circumstances of the crash.
Hansard was known for his roles in acting and music, winning an Academy Award in 2008 for “Falling Slowly” from the film Once. He was also the lead singer of the band The Frames and part of the duo The Swell Season.
His family expressed their distress through ATC Management, stating they were “deeply shocked and heartbroken” by his passing. The Irish Prime Minister, Micheál Martin, expressed condolences, noting Hansard's significant contributions to Ireland's cultural landscape.
