LEE COUNTY, Ill. (WREX) — Multiple injuries were reported following a two-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 88 near Mile Marker 71, just before 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
The accident occurred approximately five miles west of the IL-251 exit, near Meridian Rd. Aerial footage revealed at least one vehicle severely damaged in a wooded area off the roadway. According to the Illinois State Police (ISP), two individuals were transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries. Details regarding additional injuries are not yet confirmed.
As of 11:30 a.m., the westbound lanes of I-88 are closed to traffic. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
