Loma, CO – A head-on collision on Interstate 70 left one person dead Monday morning, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The accident occurred at approximately 11:36 a.m. involving a tan Subaru Outback and a white Ford F-150, just west of Loma. The Subaru subsequently caught fire, CSP reported.
The driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene. Five occupants, including two minors, were in the Ford and transported to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries remains unconfirmed.
Westbound I-70 near mile marker 4 was closed following the crash. As of 2:30 p.m. Monday, the lane remained shut to traffic.
The identity of the deceased driver will be disclosed by the Mesa County Coroner once next of kin are notified. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
