CANTERBURY, N.H. — A 20-year-old driver from Saugus, Massachusetts, was killed in a crash on I-93 following a police pursuit early Sunday morning.
According to New Hampshire State Police, a trooper attempted to stop a blue Honda Civic for speeding near exit 12 on the northbound side. The vehicle reportedly reached speeds of 120 miles per hour and was driving erratically.
Authorities said the Honda exited the highway at exit 18 but lost control on the off-ramp, veering down an embankment and striking a tree. The driver, Benjamin Tapia Gately, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. No passengers were in the vehicle.
Emergency services and police units responded to the scene, where an investigation is ongoing. No lane closures were reported following the incident.
