Two killed in multi-vehicle crash in Georgetown.

GEORGETOWN, IL — Two Danville residents were killed in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday on Illinois 1, authorities reported.

Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden identified the victims as Michael L. Vermillion, 51, and Patricia A. Hood, 52. The accident occurred around 12:16 p.m. at Illinois 1 and 15th Street, near Georgetown's north end.

According to investigators, three vehicles were traveling southbound when the rear vehicle attempted to pass the middle one, resulting in a collision with the front vehicle. The passing vehicle then crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with another vehicle.

Emergency Medical Services transported surviving occupants to area hospitals. Both the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department and the Champaign County Coroner's Office are conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.

No additional details about the crash or the condition of the surviving occupants have been released at this time.
