GEORGETOWN — A Danville man died in a three-vehicle crash on Illinois 1 at 15th Street on Wednesday at approximately 12:16 p.m.
According to the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department, the collision occurred when a rear vehicle attempted to pass a middle vehicle and rear-ended the front vehicle. This passing vehicle then crossed into the northbound lane, striking another vehicle head-on.
Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden identified the deceased as 51-year-old Michael L. Vermillion of Danville. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The passing vehicle had three occupants, while the other two vehicles each contained one occupant.
All surviving occupants were transported to a local hospital via ambulance. The sheriff's department and the Vermilion County Coroner's office are conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident. An autopsy for Vermillion is scheduled for the end of the week, according to McFadden. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
