Teen dies in crash, prompting safety concerns at school

Memorial Set Up Following Fatal Crash Involving South-Central High School Student

A memorial has been established outside South-Central High School in Winterville after 17-year-old Kimora Robinson died in a crash on Tuesday night.

According to the State Highway Patrol, Robinson was leaving the school around 6 p.m. when her vehicle was struck by a westbound while making a left turn. The other driver sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital, where they are expected to recover. No charges are anticipated at this time.

Principal Chena Cayton described Robinson as “a light in the classroom,” noting her ability to bring laughter and a positive presence to her peers. “She had a very bright future,” Cayton added.

Cayton, who was on campus during the incident, raised concerns about the safety of the roadway, stating, “I was just hoping that it was not one of our students. This is a highly traveled road, and there have been several accidents here.”

In response to the incident, Sara English, Executive Director for Pitt County Schools, said, “We are partnering with local authorities to address it as quickly as we possibly can,” as efforts are made to enhance safety and prevent future accidents.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with local authorities monitoring the situation closely.
