Fatal Collision on NC 102 Claims Life Early Friday Morning
PITT COUNTY, NC—On Friday, August 29, at approximately 4:44 a.m., a fatal accident occurred on NC 102 near Madison Hardee Road.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Patrick Alonzo Bell, 37, of Washington, was traveling east on NC 102 when his vehicle veered off the road to the right. The vehicle struck a ditch culvert, overturned, and came to rest off the roadway.
Bell was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities indicated that speed, lane control, and the lack of a seatbelt contributed to the crash.
Emergency services responded to the incident; the roadway was briefly closed for investigation. The incident remains under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
