Woman Charged After Crash Injures Pedestrian, Damages Patrol Vehicle in Onslow County

A woman faces multiple charges following a crash on Blue Creek Road in Onslow County on Saturday morning that left a pedestrian injured and a sheriff's deputy's patrol vehicle damaged.

According to the Onslow County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Halena Pena has been charged with driving without an operator's license, driving left of center, failure to move over, and .

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on October 11 when a dark-colored F-150 crossed the center line and collided with the rear of a deputy's patrol vehicle. The deputy was assisting a motorist on the roadside at the time of the collision.

Authorities reported that the pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Neither the deputy nor the driver was injured, but the patrol vehicle was totaled.

“This incident highlights the dangers of failing to move over or slow down when emergency responders are present,” said Sheriff Thomas.
