LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A 12-year-old girl, Haylee Ryan, died after being struck by a school bus while riding her bike from school on Monday.
The accident occurred near Lied STEM Academy. Following her death, community members gathered for a vigil to honor her memory, where they shared cherished memories and celebrated her creativity and kindness.
Haylee’s mother, Meghan, expressed gratitude for the community support, stating, “It brings such joy and happiness to my heart to hear my daughter’s memory being shared.” Classmates remembered Haylee for her unique style and positivity, noting how she brightened their school days.
Tables outside the academy were adorned with pictures of Haylee, and attendees participated in mask-making activities, one of her favorite pastimes. The vigil included candlelight reflections, as attendees comforted one another while remembering the vibrant girl.
In light of the tragedy, family and friends called for improved road safety measures to prevent future accidents. “I’d like to see reform on these streets,” remarked a vigil attendee.
Haylee’s funeral is set for next Saturday at Canyon Ridge Christian Church.
