AUSTIN, Texas — A child has died following a two-vehicle crash on the I-35 service road in Southeast Austin on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:41 a.m. at the intersection of the South I-35 northbound service road and the East State Highway 71 westbound service road, according to the Austin Police Department. A Jeep Compass, carrying a driver and two juvenile passengers, collided with a Tesla Cybertruck, which had a single driver.
Authorities identified the deceased as 9-year-old Lilliana Segura. Both juvenile passengers were transported to a hospital, where Segura was pronounced dead. The other child remains in critical condition. Both drivers were also hospitalized for injuries.
Investigators stated the Jeep was traveling north on the I-35 service road, while the Tesla was heading west on the East Ben White Boulevard service road. The cause of the collision is still under investigation, though initial reports indicate that neither driver was intoxicated.
