Kyle Shanahan Involved in Car Accident; Limited Duty at 49ers Training Camp
SANTA CLARA, CA — San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident on July 14 and will participate in training camp on a limited basis, the team announced Saturday.
Shanahan suffered non-life-threatening injuries and spent a portion of that day in a local hospital before being released. According to authorities, the accident involved a collision with an SUV near Shanahan's home; the other driver was not injured. Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash, and both drivers cooperated with law enforcement.
Veteran players are reporting to training camp today, with the first practice scheduled for Sunday. Chris Foerster, the assistant head coach, will oversee coaching duties alongside offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak, defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, and special teams coordinator Brant Boyer during Shanahan's recovery.
The organization expressed gratitude to first responders for their assistance in the matter. Shanahan, 46, begins his 10th season with the 49ers, which ties him with Bill Walsh for the longest-tenured head coach in franchise history.
