A 3-year-old child died Monday following a car crash involving an Uber in Austin, Texas, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 183 near the intersection of 51st Street. According to police reports, the Uber was struck by another vehicle traveling in the northbound lanes.
Emergency responders from the Austin Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly after the crash. The child was transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention at the scene. Both vehicles were towed from the highway, which experienced temporary lane closures during the investigation.
