A tragic incident unfolded late Saturday night on the Dallas North Tollway in Frisco, where a wrong-way driver collided head-on with a family vehicle. Just before midnight, the Boulos family was returning from a birthday celebration when the crash occurred south of John Hickman Parkway.
Fifteen-year-old David Boulos lost his life in the collision, which also left his sister injured and their parents in critical condition. David was only weeks away from celebrating his 16th birthday.
Family friend Anthony Asaad expressed profound sadness over the loss, recalling David's infectious smile and vibrant personality. “He's got the personality of his dad,” Asaad said. “The kid could've done anything he wanted to. He had a heart of gold.”
A dedicated student at Rockwall Heath High School, David was actively involved in his church, St. Philopateer Coptic Orthodox Church in Richardson, serving as the head of the scouts program.
The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the wrong-way driver as 37-year-old Michael Ramirez from Frisco, who also died in the wreck. According to online records, Ramirez had a prior DWI arrest in 2016. Toxicology reports are pending to determine whether he was impaired during the crash.
The North Texas Tollway Authority reported that Ramirez ignored multiple safety signs before entering the roadway in the wrong direction. “To date, every wrong-way crash NTTA has recorded has involved a driver who was impaired,” spokesperson Michael Rey noted.
In efforts to enhance safety measures, the NTTA is continuously investigating countermeasures for wrong-way drivers. They previously looked into the viability of installing spike strips but found them unsuitable for high-speed situations.
Asaad emphasized the need for better prevention measures, stating, “At the end of the day there's a child's life. We lost a 15-year-old kid.” A GoFundMe account has also been created to assist the Boulos family with medical and funeral expenses.
