POCAHONTAS COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — One person died in a helicopter crash in Pocahontas County on Friday morning, according to authorities.
Leo Basile, 57, of Aurthurdale, W.Va., was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by the West Virginia State Police. Basile, the only occupant, was piloting a Sikorsky S76D helicopter that went down near Huntersville, close to Marlinton.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported the crash occurred around 7:45 a.m. Investigations into the incident are being conducted by the West Virginia State Police, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and the FAA.
No additional details on the cause of the crash have been released.
