NASHVILLE, Tenn. — An Australian man died and three others were injured when a car ran a red light on Lower Broadway in Nashville on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026.
The crash happened just after 12:30 p.m. at Fourth Avenue North and Broadway, a busy downtown intersection.
According to Metro Nashville Police, Thomas Cahill, 87, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion south on Fourth Avenue when he ran the red light at Broadway and struck four pedestrians who were legally crossing.
Authorities identified the deceased as Timothy Wedlock, 58, of Australia.
Police said a 44-year-old man from Jacksonville, Florida, remains in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A 21-year-old woman from Knoxville sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and a 58-year-old woman from Parsons, Tennessee, is in critical but stable condition at Vanderbilt.
Authorities said Cahill and his 90-year-old wife, a passenger, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. A caregiver seated in the back was not injured.
Police said Cahill showed no signs of impairment. Investigators are evaluating whether a medical issue contributed.
No charges have been announced as the Metro Police Traffic Division continues its investigation.
