Two Dead, One Critical After Newburg Crash
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two men died, and another is in critical condition following a crash on Poplar Level Road Monday evening.
Louisville Metro Police Department responded to the incident in the 4500 block, near the intersection of Bishop Lane and Tile Factory Lane, at approximately 6:15 p.m. Authorities reported that a speeding pickup truck collided with a box truck making a left turn.
The pickup truck drove underneath the axle of the box truck. Emergency crews had to extract victims from the wreckage upon arrival.
The pickup truck driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition. A passenger in the pickup later died at the hospital, while another man in the back of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the box truck were not injured.
Witnesses reported reckless driving on Poplar Level Road shortly before the crash. Authorities suspect the speeding pickup truck was involved in those reports.
LMPD's Traffic Unit is currently investigating the crash.
