Three individuals were confirmed dead in separate water-related incidents across Arizona this past weekend, according to state officials.
On Sept. 11, a 55-year-old woman was found deceased in the Colorado River near Bullhead City. Authorities reported that witnesses saw her enter the water and not resurface.
On Sept. 12, around 7:08 p.m., a boat crash at Lake Havasu resulted in the deaths of a 65-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman. The Mohave County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.
Details regarding the incidents remain limited as investigations continue.
Recovery in the Colorado River
Emergency responders were dispatched to the Colorado River at approximately 8:20 a.m. on Sept. 11 following reports that a woman had entered the water and failed to resurface, stated the Bullhead City Police Department.
Surveillance footage showed the woman, identified as Melissa Marie Miley, 55, of Bullhead City, parking her vehicle and entering the river fully clothed. A dive team and search crews were mobilized, and her body was later discovered approximately three miles downstream.
Fatal Boat Collision at Lake Havasu
A high-speed collision involving a 2019 36′ Douglas Marine boat at Lake Havasu claimed the lives of two individuals, identified as Charles Romer, 65, and Jennifer Luzzi, 59, both from Lake Havasu City.
Deputies arrived at the scene near Cattail Cove Park after reports of the incident. Upon arrival, they found the boat overturned, and both victims were unresponsive. Despite lifesaving efforts from emergency personnel, both were pronounced dead.
Initial investigations indicate the boat was traveling at a high rate of speed before striking a peninsula and becoming airborne, landing in a nearby campsite.
Deputies from the Sheriff's Office Division of Boating Safety are continuing the investigation into this incident.
