Sumrall Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 42
JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, Miss. — A two-vehicle crash on Mississippi Highway 42 resulted in one fatality and one injury on July 30 at 7:47 p.m., according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Investigators reported that a 2005 Toyota Camry, driven by Dantirrean D. Smith, 42, of Brookhaven, was traveling west when it collided with an eastbound 2018 Ford F-250.
The F-250 was driven by Douglas Hollis, 50, of Sumrall, with passenger Robert W. Breland Jr., 54. Hollis was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson Davis County Coroner's Office, while Breland sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
According to authorities, Smith fled the scene but later surrendered to the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
